The space

The Half Moon is a five-minute walk north of Bishops Stortford’s market square, on the quieter end of North Street. The interior is open-plan with a kitchen-facing bar and dining tables that make it feel more restaurant-adjacent than strictly publike. The garden at the back is pleasant and shaded in summer.

What to drink

The drinks range is broadly standard - a house lager, two or three ales on draught, and a wine list that goes beyond the minimum. The kitchen is the main event here: a short menu of pub classics cooked with genuine care.

The verdict

The Half Moon is reliable rather than exceptional. Its position slightly off the main drag means it rarely gets the attention it warrants, and the food quality has been consistently above what you would expect from a pub in a town of this size. Worth knowing about; not the first stop on a drinking-only evening.
